IV. Ongoing Business
a. Discussion of Goals for BA for upcoming year:

  i. General Maintenance of Block
-Care of street trees on our block – Tree workshop scheduled for
Oct. 23rd was postponed. David Kane would like to organize a workday
on the trees (mulching, breaking up the dirt) before the weather gets
too cold. Jay Medabalmi has also expressed interest in street tree care.
We will let the block know when this is scheduled so everyone can join in. -Tree Guards/fences: Cator has been reaching out to other block
association presidents to discuss installation of tree guards and cost
effectiveness of purchasing/ordering them together. - Dog waste problem along corner lot of 122nd/FDB: Cator found
the culprit! If you see a brown German Shepherd on our block again,
please follow it to the neighbors house and complain. He lives on 121st
Street. Walter observed that the property owner does not appear to
care about this problem. Residents may call 311 to complain.
(note that the property address is 2272 Frederick Douglass Blvd) ii. Support for Education - Report on this past summer's teen environmental program
in the garden: Haja reported that two college student interns from
Stony Brook University assisted in running the program for which they
were able to receive college credit. Teen participants focussed on
sustainability, took several field trips including one out to the CSA farm
operation upstate, participated in workshops including canning/food
preservation, tree care, and beekeeping. iii. Funding: - Membership drive – Fialka has re-emailed the BA a sample invoice
for everyone to send in their dues ( $24 per family) . No response to
that email has been received to date. So far, 11 memberships have
been paid this year. - Donation 'in kind' of 1,200 bags from 'Target' for the block party
total in value over $4,000 by Target's estimate. V. Block News a. Precinct Meeting - Precinct Meetings are held the second Wednesday
of every month. You can also check local crime statistics online:
