IV. Ongoing Business

a. Discussion of Goals for BA for upcoming year

  i. General Maintenance of Block

-Request for Speed bumps: We finally got a letter back from the DOT that said they tested our street andit does not meet the needs of a speed bump.

-Care of street trees on our block – Dave will be conducting a Tree Workshop Saturday October 23 from 12-3. We will meet at the Community Garden.

- Dog waste problem: Cator found the culprit! If you see a brown German

Shepherd wandering alone on our block again, please follow it back to the

neighbor’s house and complain. He lives on 121st Street.

- Corner lot – where construction has halted, leaving an open basement:

The corner of 122 Street and Frederick Douglas Blvd is still messy and a

hazard. (2272 FDB). Hans said that he can see from his apartment that they

are not pumping water out of the property and that can be a MAJOR problem

this summer for mosquitoes. Please call 311 and report unsanitary conditions.

To reach the owner/property manager, call 212-997-1234.

  ii. Support for Education

-Target support for Project Harmony programming: The BA donated $500 to their education initative. This summer they held their teen environmental workshop.

-Haja did not attend so no news about education in the garden.

  iii. Funding above goals:

            - Membership drive –  Our key source of funding is membership fees.

However, payment of fees so far this year has been slow. As such, Fialka

sent out an email to block residents with a sample invoice, inviting all to mail

in their dues. Deadline for this mail-in fund drive is June 20/10.

            - Cator is looking into tree guards. How much they would be and how to pay for them. Working on it with a Block President on 118th Street

V. Block News

a. Precinct Meeting - Precinct Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month.

b. JD Wilson Garden Updates – see www.projectharmonynyc.org

c. Block Party – It was a great success even though the church couldn’t participate. Next year we really want to work closer to them so we can be more involved and help them with organizing the DJ, sponsors, vendors, etc.  Target donated $500 worth of bags to give away for the event.

VI. Old Business

1. BA 122 Tote bags are still available for $15 each.

VII. New Business

  1. We voted unanimously to donate $50 to the church for our annual donation.
  2. Winnie and Israel said the tree in front of their house has been chopped down. 311 says there is currently a backlog of tree stumps to be removed but it will be removed and replaced with a tree.
  3. The Winter CSA is about to start up. For pricing and info contact Cindy & Haja (Haja216@aol.com)
  4. Great News! A restaurant from DC called Busy Boys & Poets is opening in Hans’ building FDB between 122 and 123rd Streets. Read more about it here: http://harlemcondolife.com/2010/08/10/busboys-and-poets-plan-to-expand-in-harlem/
